貧乏青年・リプリーは、仕事で訪れたパーティで知りあった富豪から息子・ディッキーを連れ戻してほしいと頼まれる。さっそくナポリに飛び、身分を偽ってディッキーに近づいたリプリーだったが、次第に彼の奔放な魅力に惹かれ始める.
主人公のリプリーは、自分が好きになった男性をどんどんと殺していってしまう。自分のついた嘘を隠すために。
そして、その最初の動機は自分ではない誰かになりたい、というもの。
殺人を犯すまでには共感できないかもしれませんが、誰しもが、自分の空虚さと隣で輝いている誰かとを比較し、絶望し、誰かの人生を歩んでみたいと感じたことのある人はいるのではないでしょうか。
リプリーは警察に容疑をかけられますが、映画の中では捕まりません。いつか、ついてきた嘘の全てが明るみに出るとき、捕まるのかもしれません。映画では、その顛末よりもむしろ、リプリーの嘘をつきたい心理に焦点を当てていたのかもしれません。
いわゆる探偵もののように、捕まえてすっきり、という映画ではありませんが、逮捕を描かないことによる後味の悪さがこのリプリーの生き方の連鎖の一部を切り取っているように思われました。
少しでも自分の空虚さを感じたことのある人間は、リプリーにも感情移入することになり、警察に追い詰められている際には、何とかなるのか？とハラハラさせられることになります。
マット・デイモンが好きでみましたが、ほかの俳優さんも素敵でした。
Ripley is a young adult looking for Dicky, a son of a millionair. As their relation became deepened, Ripley got to love Dicky. However, Dicky rejected him and told him that he was boring.
Since before Ripley had been dipressed by his own emptiness and rejection by Dicky drove Ripley to kill him. Ripley pretended as Dicky and he killed another person who found his lie. Then Ripley wrote a letter telling a suicide message pretending Dicky and got away. Afterwards, he met another man named Peter and loved him. However, Peter found Ripley was pretending Dicky, and Ripley killed him to conceal the lie.
After all, to conceal a lie, he told a lie and he killed men when it comes to the light. He repeated the practice. Looking at his motivation for the killings and lies, his desire to be someone proves to be a driving force of his repetitive crimes.
I suppose that anybody often feels like being someone else and wants to live as a another person, throwing away what your are now. This movie shed a light on the phycological movement of human, particulary a person who feels helplessnes of his own.
