観ました。
本は読んだことがなかったので、映画の感想です。
内容は江戸時代のキリシタン弾圧を題材としたものでありますが、
それを通して、日本人に通底する考え方が非常に良く描写されていると思いました。
それは、つまり、「均質化」と「本音と建前」です。
物語い出てくるキチジローがそれを表現するシンボルとして扱われており、
何度も踏み絵の「見本」を示すものとして登場します。
日本人は表向きの均質化を非常に好み、一方で心は自由だ、という考えを持っています。ある意味、想像の中では何をやっても自由なのです。
そして、宗教というのは、その心を内側から変えてしまうものであるとして、当時の大名たちは危険を感じたのではないでしょうか。
それを、映画の中では、日本は「沼地」であると表現されていました。そういうことを自覚しておくことは、様々な文化の人々と接する上で非常に役に立つのではないでしょうか。
The movie "Silence" is based on the Japanese novel "Chinmoku" authored by Shusaku Endo. I have never read the novel and so will touch upon the movie.
The theme is restriction of relligion against Christans in Japan.
Through the theme, mind set undermined in Japanese seems to be well described.
It is 'homogenization' and 'Real intention and stated reason' .
Japanese people tend to prefer the same direction, preference and taste in each thing amoung themselves and need to show it. This is homogeniztion in Japan.
On the other hand, We have in mind that we are free to do anything in our brains. We are totally free within our imagination, even kill people and believe in things that are not common in general.
Religion, however, might be thought to be a risky thing that changes our mind from the roots and resulted in being restricted by Japan government in those days. This is expressed as 'swamp' in the movie.
This knowledge and awareness would be beneficial in communicating between Japanese and people in other cultures.
