小説とは何か。ひとはなぜ文章を書きたいと思うのか。
本書ではそれがどこまでも個人的な行為である、ということをさまざまな観点から述べられています。小説の原型となるのは、「個」が立ち上がってくるところから。つまり、小説は何か、伝えたいテーマなどについて書くのではなく、むしろ「考えたい」こと、自分の中で答えの出ていないことについて、書いていく作業なのだということでした。
なるほど、だから小説の読者にはを自由に解釈する権利があって、読者によって感想や解釈が変わってくるのだと合点がいきました。もしも、作家が伝えたいことが決まっているのなら、それはもう小説ではなく論説文なのかもしれません。
そして、小説とは人間に対する圧倒的な肯定なのだ、ということも書かれていました。小説家になる人はある種変わり者というか、世の中の端でその違和感を言葉をとおして自己表現するひとと言い換えられるかもしれません。だからこそ、小説家の書く言葉には真実があるし、それはなにかのマイノリティとして苦しんでいる人に対する絶対的な存在の肯定となる救いという役割もあるのだ、ということをしりました。
もしかしたら我々一人一人がすでに小説家になる準備はできているのかもしれません。
What is a novel?
The book presented it as persoal acirivity after all. What originates a novel is individual thoughts and feeling which lies at a deep level of your conscious. You dig it and find it out and describe it. This is not a theme, rather a what you want to think through writing a novel. You don't write about what you know, but what you don't know.
That's why a novel is open ended, which allows us to interpret the meaning of the novel. And a novel accept what you are. You may feel unsecure where you live, for example you feel like minority of different from ordinary people. But a novel accepts all you have, all you think and all you do. This is the reason why a novel can save people in a sense.
I think everbody has to have something they can digest inside them so that you all are alredy prepared to be a novelist.
